It’s been 9 years since Semir Osmanagić claimed to have discovered pyramids at the site of Visočice. Over the past several years public support to this self-proclaimed researcher went from great elation and media attention, including a documentary film about the pyramids, to disappointment and censorship. With media censorship it seemed to me that euphoria over this issue had finally ended and that Osmanagić and his pyramids will soon be forgotten, just like most other absurdities that occasionally emerge and are presented as brilliant ideas.

With tourism, there is also the possibility of new job creation and the rise of private businesses such as restaurants, hotels and vendors. This can present real positive change in the lives of everyday people who might typically not be able to make a sustainable living. Take for example, the so-called ‘Bosnian Pyramids,’ of Visoko. Even though there is much debate about what these hills truly are, their sheer ‘discovery,’ and media fame has led to a flourishing pocket of tourist activity in the area, resulting in millions of euros injected into the local economy. And this is only one small example. Numerous locales still remain unexplored and untapped into these sorts of possibilities.

Prescott Valley resident Tom Steele traveled to Bosnia this summer to visit what some call the world's oldest pyramid. Steele said there is compelling evidence the pyramids are authentic sites dating back 12,000 years. The documentary, which aired on December 21, 2012, included Bosnian pyramids in the world's most important network of pyramids and professor Osmanagic was presented as one of the leading experts for the phenomenon of pyramids in the world.

Recent results from independent laboratory analysis achieved by Italy’s Polytechnic University of Turin (Politecnico di Torino – POLITO) confirmed that the samples of sandstone and conglomerate blocks taken last summer at Bosnia’s Sun Pyramid is ancient concrete made with artificially (man-made) aggregates. In the new analysis made by the Chemistry Department of the POLITO both chemical and diffractometry analysis confirmed that the concrete material consists in inert material with a binding material that seems similar to Roman concrete.

"Hopefully we can find some organic material, you know, the bones or the wooden fragments, or charcoal. … Then we can tell for sure," he said. In recent months thousands of tourists have flooded into Visoko to peer at the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun and its neighbors, the nearby hills christened the Pyramids of the Moon and the Dragon.

Archaeologists have begun digging for what they think might be a pyramid hidden beneath a hill in Bosnia. The Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun, with its’ height of 220 meters, it’s much higher than the Great Pyramid of Egypt, which was originally 147. The Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon, 190 meters, also higher than the Keopsove Pyramid. The third, the Bosnian Pyramid of the Dragon, with the other two – the sun and the moon – form the perfect triangle with the distance of 2.2 kilometers.

Bosnia, until recently, was one of those countries where US citizens were advised not to travel. Like many Americans, I only knew that Bosnia was located in some faraway place called the Balkans—a place as alien to me as Mars. However, I had this amazing opportunity to visit this exciting, foreign land that most Americans have never experienced. My objective was to learn not only about the Bosnian people and their culture, but also to see the newly discovered Bosnian Pyramids!
